Bill 204 Passed, So What’s Next?
With the news that the private member's Bill 204, The Municipal Government (National Urban Parks) Amendment Act, has passed, we are interested to see what is next.
This update indicates that the UCP Government is interested in urban parks and recognizes that parks are best designed when they are locally inspired.
We believe Bill 204 could become the Government of Alberta's doorway to building great urban park systems that interconnect communities and offer vital wildlife corridors.
We want to see the impact of Bill 204 legislation to produce more parks, not less.
The Nose Creek Valley provides a great opportunity for Bill 204 to be successful; it’s a green space between Calgary and Airdrie that honours the history, ecology, and biodiversity and offers a healthy outdoor space where families can explore and learn together.
Nose Creek is a perfect candidate for the National Urban Parks program, which needs to be collaboratively pursued by the City of Calgary and the Province to show how Bill 204 can be successful.
As always, we would love to discuss this specific bill or any topic related to urban parks and conservation with the UCP Government.
This is an opportunity for you to discuss this with the Honourable Minister Loewen (fp.minister@gov.ab.ca).
